NIBLEY GREEN AND MICHAEL WOOD: Not far from North Nibley lies the site of the 1470 battle of Nibley Green. This little known battle was the last battle fought in England by private armies. Thomas Talbot 2nd Viscount de Lisle was defeated and killed by the 2nd Baron Berkeley who went on to sack de Lisle’s manor of Wotton-under-Edge.
